Walnut Class Term 2 Week 1

What a wonderful week we have had in Walnut Class, although it was a short week! The children have all settled beautifully into the new term. They have presented the most amazing learning all week.

We started the week reminding ourselves of the school rules and values.

For our Maths learning this week, we have been learning how to use different written methods to add and subtract numbers accurately.

For our Literacy learning, we have written a 'Cold Write.' We created our own adventure stories based on 'Little Boat' children learnt about inference by looking at a character and describing how he was feeling by his facial expression, voice and body language. We have also learnt how to use personal and possessive pronouns in our writing.

Our Science learning this week has focused around using the words, transparent, translucent and opaque. We have used torches and different objects to predict and investigate.

Our first week ended with an amazing DT lesson where we have used iPads and then:

  • Open the ARLOOPA app on the ipads.
  • Type ‘chamber’ into the search bar
  • Click ‘Egypt Chamber’
  • Scan the floor until the tomb appears.
  • EXPLORE THE TOMB!
  • The children thoroughly enjoyed this lesson.
  • Their task was to:
  • Design their Egyptian tomb.
  • They needed to include a front and a side profile
  • The measurements they want their tomb to be including how big the peep hole will be.
  • Resources they would need to build it

Reminders:

Our swimming session is each Tuesday afternoon at Mote Park. Please ensure your child brings their swimming kit and towel to school every Tuesday. Please collect your child from school at 3:15pm as usual.

Our P.E. session is on a Wednesday during Term 2 ( this Term). Please ensure your child is wearing the correct P.E. kit, as identified on our website under the ‘Parents & Carers’ section and then under ‘School Uniform.’

Have a lovely weekend
