Cherry Class Blog Term 2 Week 1

Good morning/afternoon/evening parents and welcome to our latest class blog!

We have enjoyed some enjoyable lessons (and indifferent wet and wild weather also!) this first week back, but the children have responded well to the learning and having to spend additional time in the classroom at break/lunchtimes because of the rain.

In Literacy this term we are concentrating on poetry and we looked at 'Bonfire/Fire works' poems, their style, language and specific features. The children had a chance to write their own examples today and we will edit them tomorrow.

In Numeracy, Year 6 have been investigating fractions and their equivalents, whereas Year 5 have been looking at square and cubed numbers and then multiplying and dividing by 10/100/1000. Year 5 will start their 4 week block on fractions next week.

Our topic this term is titled 'What Price Progress?' and we had a very interesting lesson midweek about Islam over 1000 years ago and the growth of the 'Round City' (modern day Baghdad in Iraq) and saw out inventions/discoveries from this period, such as perfume, coffee, glass, the 3-course meal (!) are still in existence today.

Our PE this term is on a Thursday and we did a double session today, with some yoga in the hall before lunch and then we had a PE teacher this afternoon who did some fitness training with the whole class.

Well done all the children for all your efforts this week, enjoy your weekend
