Term 2 Week 2 10.11.23

This term our topic is called What Price Progress? It is all about technology, inventions and how past societies have impacted modern life.

In Literacy this week we have looked at the poet Matt Goodfellow and focused on a few of his poems. We have watched videos of him talking about his poems and performing them. We enjoyed 'A Special Badger' and 'If Cats Had Flavoured fur'. We explored the features of poems, how they rhyme, patterns, syllables in words and sentences and word play. We then wrote our random thoughts about life and created and wrote our own poems.

In Maths, year 5 have been learning to find equivalent fractions, using their times table knowledge to support this. Year 6 have been learning how to add and subtract fractions using different methods, including the bar model and finding the common denominator to solve problems.

In History, we have looked at the House of Wisdom and how this influenced modern day libraries.

In PSHE, we explored the benefits of sleep and how we can get a better nights sleep..

In Science we are learning about Animals, including Humans. This week we explored the gestation period of different animals and used our maths skills to create a graph to demonstrate this.

PE is now on Friday for Cedar Class. We will be learning about Tag Rugby in the morning and Fitness in the afternoon.

Chewing Gum - There are a few children coming into school chewing gum. This is not allowed. Please support us on this.

Energy Drinks - There are a few children drinking energy drinks before school, or bringing them to school. These drinks contain a seriously high level of sugar and do not encourage a good start to the day. Please discourage your children drinking these before school.

TEAMS

Does your child know their Teams log in details? If it has been lost please let me know so I can reset their password. I will be checking this over the coming weeks.

EdShed

All children have now been given their EdShed passwords, so they can access EdShed. They have been written in their Reading Records along with their TTRS passwords.

Year 6 Maths

On our school website we have a year 6 SATs revision page. Please use this page to support your child's learning throughout the year. This term we are learning all about fractions, so please use the page for home learning.
