Term 3 Week 1 5.1.24

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Welcome back, the children are well rested and have found getting back to a routine tiring at times, but they have had an amazing positive start to the new term and new year. We have had an amazing week and I am proud of them.

This term our topic is AD900. We will be learning all about the Mayan civilisation and its impact on society today.

In Literacy we will be starting a story called The Hero Twins next week, but as a way in the children had to write their cold write which was a newspaper report with the headline - The Hero Twins. They had to plan a report about why the twins were heroes.

In maths, year 5 have been recapping on multiplication by multiplying up to 4 digits by a 1 digit number and moving on to multiplying a 2 digit number by a 2 digit number. Year 6 have been introduced to ratio. They have been looking at patterns and relationships between sequences of numbers using the additive and multiplicative methods. We used this knowledge to work out and represent ratios.

In History we have started to looked at the Mayan civilisation and looked at the hierarchy system of who had the most important roles to the least and discussed this. We made comparisons to today's society and discussed how we would feel if the roles existed in our society.

PE is now on Thursday. This term we are learning Hockey and Gymnastics.

Next Friday (12.1.24) is our class assembly. Everyone is welcome. it starts at 9.00am.

Have a great weekend.
