Term 4 Week 1 23.2.24

Welcome back to term 4.

We have started a new topic which is science themed. It is called Out of Africa and we will be learning about evolution and inheritance.

In literacy we introduced the book Pig Heart Boy and just by looking at the front cover, wrote a story based on the title as our cold write. The children came up with some great ideas and are eager to start reading it next week.

In maths, year 5 have been learning the place value of digits in a number with up to 3 decimal places. They have also been looking at fraction equivalents and ordering and comparing them. Year 6 have been looking at multiplying and dividing integers by 10, 100 and 1,000 and look at how the digits move columns depending on the calculation. We have explored patterns and relationships between these. We finished the week by multiplying and dividing decimal numbers by an integer and again making links between them.

In science, we have discussed what human evolution means and drew pictures and labelled them to show how humans came to be. We had great discussions about this and some amazing questions were asked.

In computing we are using Scratch to explore how selection is used in computer programs. The children really enjoyed creating games to explore this.

In DT we are looking at seasonal foods and how this affects food produce in the UK. We have been learning about importing and exporting and learning which foods are in season throughout the year.

PE this term is still on Thursday. We will be doing dance with the PASS coach and Tennis.
