Term 1 Week 2 15.9.23

We have had a great week.

In Literacy this week we planned an adventure story that had to have a boat in it. Then we wrote our story using our plan. We looked at the importance of editing and why we edit our work and completed the week by editing our own stories. This is in preparation for the start of our literacy text next week: Kensuke’s Kingdom.

In Maths, both year 5 and year 6 have been learning about place value. Year 5 have been learning to read, write, order and compare numbers up to 1,000,000 whilst year 6 have been looking at numbers up to 10,000,000. We have also been learning to write numbers in numerals and words. We have been learning to recognise the place value of each digit and understand that 0 is a place holder.

Our topic learning this term is called Earth as an Island. We explored the physical and human features in Cape Verde, which links to our story for literacy and follows on from our learning from last week on the continent of Africa.

In Science we are looking at Living Things and their Habitats. This week we look at the reproduction of some plants. We looked at the parts of a Gladioli and labelled the female and male parts to explore how they reproduce. We created botanical illustrations to show our understanding.

In RE, this week we discussed why people might be atheists, theists and agnostic.

In PE, for this term, we have PE on a Thursday and a Friday. On Thursday the children will learn football and on Friday they will learn Basketball.
