Term 1 Week 1

It has been a fantastic start to the year, and it is so lovely to see all the children back after a long summer break. We have already been doing lots of learning this week beginning our topic of Island Life, learning all about the geography of islands. We have started by doing some atlas work to find different countries of the world, and then have been more specific in finding islands and naming some of the major islands around the world.

We have been basing much of our learning on maths this week, linking our learning to a book called Spaghetti and Meatballs. We started by looking for the maths within the book, looking at recipe ratios, seating plans and then used this solve problems.

In our Literacy we looked at writing invitations to get people to come to a party and how we can use persuasive language to encourage people more. We also looked at recipe writing and imperative verbs and wrote instructions for making tomato pasta which we then made and ate.

In Science we are looking at light. We started the topic by investigating the different ways light travels through coloured lens and prisms to make some predictions about how we think light moves. We also started our Art learning, looking at the work of Damien Hirst and practicing to create art work inspired by him.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Mr Saunders and Mrs Hendry
