17th November Weekly Review

We have achieved another great week of learning in Maple Class!

To support us with our Literacy learning this week, we have continued to use our focus text ‘Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx.’ We have learnt what personification means and how to include this within our writing. We have also been learning about homophones: they are words that sound the same, but have a different meaning and spelling. Finally, we have written a setting description by using the five senses within our writing.

For our Maths learning, Year 4 have focused on learning multiplication and division facts for the 7, 11 and 12 times tables, using prior knowledge of other times tables and identifying patterns to help them calculate problem solving questions.  Year 3 have been learning to recall and use multiplication facts for the 3, 4 and 8 times tables, using arrays to help them.

For our Science learning this week, we have discussed and planned an investigation. We want to measure the size of a shadow at different times of the day, as the sun moves around an object.  We explained how we would ensure we carry out a fair investigation, what will stay the same and what will change. Next week, we will measure the size of the shadow at different times and record our findings on a graph.

For our RE learning this week, we have listened to the story of Rama and Sita and how Rama defeated the demon king, Ravana. This will support our understanding of why Diwali is celebrated as we are looking forward to participating in a Diwali workshop next week.

Our PE learning this term is ‘gymnastics.’ This week, our task was to hold a balance using different parts of our body. We then learnt to jump safely onto a bench, hold a balance on a bench and then move off the bench using a tuck, pike, straddle or star jump.

We ended the week with our DT learning that linked with our History learning.  Today, we discussed what Ancient Egyptians would have included in their tomb, to take with them on their journey to the after-life. We also discussed what an ‘artefact’ is and made our own artefacts out of clay.  These will eventually be placed inside our Egyptian tomb.

Finally, we all enjoyed our non-uniform day on Friday, raising money for ‘Children in Need.’  Thank you for all your generous donations.

Reminders:

Monday is our swimming session - please remember to bring swimming kit in.
