Term 3 Week 5 2.2.24

Welcome to February! It's amazing how quickly January flew.

In Literacy we have been learning how to sequence a story and to write a summary so that we really understand it. We have written questions and answers and finished the week with role play to support our hot write learning next week. We have been learning spelling patterns for plurals. especially words ending with a  consonant and y as this changes to 'ies' for plurals, eg butterfly becomes butterflies.

In Maths, year 5 have been learning to find amounts of fractions and the strategies to help them do so. Year 6 have completed their unit of algebra. We have looked at how to represent problems with equations, how to find the value of an unknown.

In History we looked at how Mayan civilisation ended and how we know. What evidence is there in history that tells us this?

In Science we are looking at Materials: Materials and their Changing Properties. This week we explored a chemical reaction. We used Bicarbonate of soda and vinegar to produce carbon dioxide, this inflated a balloon. The children were fascinated by this.

PE is on Thursday. This term we are learning Hockey and Gymnastics.

Next week we are making masks. If the children want to bring in some creative resources for them, they can.

Have a great weekend.
