Term 2 week 2

Hello :)

What a wonderful week it has been in Oak Class and it was lovely to be able to share our amazing learning with all parents that were able to attend our class assembly.

Literacy

This week we have been spending time with Sunny, a lovely and adventurous Meerkat who leaves home in search of the perfect home! He keeps in touch with his family through postcards but soon realised that the perfect place for him was where he began! From this text called 'Meerkat Mail', we have begun to look at postcards in our literacy lessons. We have also been exploring poetry in our guided reading sessions, looking at the rhymes and rhythms and how reading poetry can help with our fluency.

Maths

This week we have been looking at subtraction. We have looked at using our subtraction facts to help with our number bonds and begun to look at subtracting 2 digit numbers using a pictorial method to help us. We have even challenged ourselves to look at what we do if we have to cross the tens! Oak Class have been so brilliant with their learning that they have begun to apply their knowledge of subtraction to problem solving.

Afternoons

This week in Science, we have been looking at identifying common animals as carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We are able to explain what the difference between the animals are and explain using our knowledge, how to tell which animal is which.

In P.E. we have continued to look at our fitness. We have been looking at communication and cooperation in our lessons this week, playing different team games to show how important it is to be part of a team when exercising. We have also discussed the importance of a good warm up for our bodies and why we should stretch.

Linking to our geography and science lessons, we have also looked at what a habitat is and how all living things need a habitat to survive.
