Term 1 Week 7 20.10.23

We have had a long and amazing first term together. Routines are established and we have produced some amazing learning.

In Literacy this week we have planned and wrote our own stories based on Kensuke’s Kingdom. We have also created a front cover and a blurb for our stories.

In Maths, year 5 have been learning to find common multiples and factors to solve problems and to learn about prime numbers. Year 6 continued with learning about long division and learnt some new strategies to divide by 2 digit numbers. We also looked at BODMAS and how to answer mixed operation calculations. We completed the week by looking at how to use different strategies to mentally calculate answers to number problems.

In geography, we have looked at how to use 4 and 6 figure grid references. We learnt how to read them to locate landmarks and places. We looked at how symbols are used on an ordnance survey map. The children had a go at creating their own grids using a map of Maidstone.

In Science, this week we continued and finalized looking at the reproduction of different animal groups and explored metamorphosis. We drew the life cycles of a chosen animal and wrote about their reproduction and their life cycle. We found out that some animals do not follow the suit of their animal group and that a duckbilled platypus actually lays eggs, even though it’s a mammal.

In PE, due to the weather we played Bench Ball in the hall. The children worked really well together as a team, learning new skills and recognizing their skills.
