Term one, Week one

Apples and Pears have had a great first week starting school. They have all settled so well in school and have been learning our school rules and values.
We have explored the different areas within our provision and spent quite a lot of time in our outside area as it has been lovely and sunny. The children have enjoyed our water play area, bikes and sand pit.
Thank you to those parents that have signed up for a meet the teacher meeting and have attended. We look forward to meeting the rest of you next week. It is always lovely to meet you all and discuss any worries or concerns you might have as they settle into big school. We also use these meetings to explain how reception works and hand out reading books.

PE:
Our PE days will be on a MONDAY. Please can you ensure you have your child’s PE kit in school for Monday 18th September. We will provide the first team t-shirt for your child. Please could you provide black shorts or black bottoms and black trainers or plimsolls. Also can you ensure you child does not wear earrings on Mondays, as they will not be able to take part in PE.

Home learning:
Once the children are full time, every Friday home learning will be sent home. This will be relating to what we have learnt throughout the week. Please ensure you put your child’s name on their learning and this is to your teacher by the following Thursday. They will receive a weekly certificate for completing their home learning.

Show and tell:
Every Friday, your child can bring in a SMALL favourite toy or object which will be kept in our show and tell boxes throughout the day. We then spend our Friday afternoon sharing them with the rest of the classes.

Reading books:
Each week your child will be given a reading book. We will change their book once a week depending on which colour group they are in. Please can you ensure you try and read with your child at least once a week and sign the reading record book. Your child will receive a reading certificate on Fridays if they have read at home.
Treat:
In Apple and Pear class we work towards a treat for all of our hard work that we have done throughout the week. This treat could be spending time on the big pirate ship, going to the field to play some games or watch a short clip on the big screen.

Thank you for all your support with your children starting their journey at Parkway. We look forward to an exciting year ahead!
