Cherry Class Blog Term 2 Week 3

Welcome everyone to our latest blog at the end of our third week of this Autumn term.

In Literacy, the children have had an enjoyable week using figurative language linked to school and had the opportunity to use similes, metaphors, repetition, hyperbole, personification in poems they've studied and additional stanzas they've added.

Both Year 5 and 6 have again been looking at fractions this week. Year 5 have been looking at fractions greater than 1 (improper fractions and mixed numbers) and Year 6 have been adding, taking away and multiplying fractions.

In history, we are continuing our learning linked to the Golden Age of Islam from many hundreds of years ago and this week we studied a famous Arab explorer who left his home to explore the Arab world......and didn't return for nearly 29 years!

In RE we looked at two statues in Bristol and discussed the rights and wrongs over the protests in 2020 that resulted in one of the statues ending up in the Bristol docks.

This week it has been Anti-Bullying week at school and we had some good discussions midweek about how 'banter' can sometimes lead to bullying.

We had a double PE session today, with some calming yoga first before completing a fitness circuit in the hall and again in the afternoon completing a tag-rugby session.

P.S. Please read the message below from Miss Muddassir, our RE co-ordinator.

Park Way's Greeting Cards Competition

Calling all budding artists/graphic designers/illustrators at Park Way!

Park Way is holding a greeting card competition this year and the theme is

‘What does Christmas/this time of the year mean to you?’

Design a greeting card with this theme in mind using any media of your choice, e.g. watercolours, coloured paper, colouring pencils, felt tips, etc. Please do not use glitter as the designs might be scanned.

A winner will be chosen from each phase and every winner will be given a very special prize.  There will be an overall winner chosen whose winning design will be printed as a pack of greeting cards for them to share with families and friends.

The closing date for the competition is Friday 1st of December, 2023.  We are looking forward to seeing the amazing talent and creativity Park Way has to offer.

have a great weekend everyone!

regards, Mr Ramsden & Miss Stokes
