Term 4 Week 4 15.3.24

In literacy we have continued to read The Pig Heart Boy. We have written diary entries as if we were Cameron. One was about finding out that Cameron was going to have a brother or sister and he was writing to them about himself. The other was about how Cameron was feeling as he prepared to go to hospital for his heart transplant.

In maths, Year 5 have been learning about perimeter and area of rectilinear shapes. They have been estimating with known facts. Year 6 have been learning how to find percentages of an amount. The children need to know these facts: 25% divide by 4, 50% divide by 2, 10% divide by 10 and so on. They have found this difficult. We ended the week looking at the area of shapes and will be continuing this next week.

In science, we are learning about animal and plant adaptation. This week we looked at how plants have adapted to their environment over time. We have looked at different types of plants and how they survive: water lilies, cactus, giant redwoods, mangroves etc. We did some research on this and discussed what we learnt.

In computing we are using Scratch to explore how selection is used in computer programs. We are learning how to program a condition and an outcome. We have planned our questions and created a quiz using Scratch.

In DT we continued looking at seasonal foods and tasted some different seasonal foods: salmon, prawns and green lentils.

PE this term is still on Thursday. We will be doing dance with the PASS coach and Tennis.

We visited St Martins Church this week as we are learning about Christianity. The children were amazing. They found out lots of information about the church and Christianity. I was so proud of them.

Have a lovely weekend.
