Term 3 Week 2 12.1.24

Well done to Cedar Class for their class assembly. Thank you to everyone who came to support them and continue to support the school.

In Literacy we have started to read The Hero Twins. Like most stories set in ancient civilisations it involves the underworld. We spent the beginning of the week exploring synonyms. We used a thesaurus to find synonyms of adjectives to describe the underworld. We used these synonyms to write expanded noun phrases. We completed the week by writing a setting description.

In Maths, year 5 have been multiplying a 3 digit number and a 4 digit number by a 2 digit number. They have then been using this knowledge to solve problems. They are learning to divide a 3 digit number by a 1 digit number using written method. Year 6 have been introduced to scale factors where they have been looking at shapes which are represented by a scale. They have then had to enlarge them or work out what they have been enlarged by.

In History we looked at how religion influenced the Mayans and the Gods. The children looked at several Mayan Gods and discussed their powers and features. They designed their own God and had to write a description about it.

In Science we are looking at Materials: Materials and their Changing Properties. This week explored why certain materials are suitable for certain objects. We used scientific vocabulary to describe this.

In Art, we designed a Mayan mask ready to create nearer the end of term.

PE is on Thursday. This term we are learning Hockey and Gymnastics.

Have a great weekend.
