Literacy
In literacy this week, we have continued with Greek mythology. We focused on Hercules. We used our knowledge and imagination to write about the 12 Labours that we thought he had to do. Then we looked at the 12 Labours and made comparisons. We wrote a diary entry as if we were Hercules and described how it was carrying out one of the 12 Labors and we also wrote a character description for Hercules. We concluded the week by having a debate about whether Hercules should have done the 12 Labors or not. This was a really good debate because the children really thought about the evidence they had to support their opinion. Next week we will be reading about Medusa and Perseus.
Maths
In maths, Year 5 have been learning about angles around a point and on a straight line. Year 6 have been learning about angles in quadrilaterals and other polygons. We have also looked at the features of a circle and how to find the radius and diameter of a circle. We have used our knowledge to solve problems.
Science
In science this week, we have looked at Pythagoras’ theory to investigate whether it was true and explored other facts about triangles. This was linked to maths.
History
This week we learnt about the Viking’s invasion of Britain; where they came from, why they left Scandinavia and why they settled in Great Britain. We also made comparisons to life today and back in 793CE.
P.E. is now every Tuesday afternoon.
There are still some children not wearing the correct PE kit. It MUST be black shorts/jogging bottoms/leggings with the team colour T shirt. No belly tops should be worn either.
Climbing Experience
The year 5 had a really amazing experience at climbing this week. Some of them amazed themselves and pushed the boundaries to be successful showing great resilience.
TTRockstars
Our class champion this week for their time spent on TTRS over the last weekend was…
Ellie
Who will it be next week?
Fire Brigade
The fire brigade came in to talk to the children about fire safety in the home. They had remembered a lot from a previous visit and were confidently talking about how to keep safe.
Poling Day
The school is closed to pupils on Thursday 4th May 2023 due to poling. This would be a good time for Year 6 to go on to the school website, find the Year 6 page and revise for their maths SATs. Click here to access the resources!
YEAR 6 SATS BEGIN ON TUESDAY 9TH MAY. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD IS IN SCHOOL ON TIME, EVERYDAY THAT WEEK.
Have a great weekend.
