Walnut Class Term 5 Week 4

Another week of absolutely amazing learning! I am extremely proud of all the children in Walnut Class.

In our learning this week, we have worked extremely hard on a PowerPoint project. Children used the internet to find flowers to decorate each room in Buckingham Palace for King Charles III. They had to write down the names and prices of each flower, and calculate the total cost for the whole project. They had to make sure that each room had at least one flower that is red, white or blue/purple. They have presented their PowerPoints to the rest of the class with so much pride!

In Maths this week, Year 4 Mathematicians have compared and ordered decimals with up to two decimal places. Next week, they will use this knowledge in context as we move on to understanding money. Year 3 Mathematicians are building on their knowledge of money to understand how they relate to decimals.

For their R.E. learning, children discussed what ‘temptation’ means and why some people find it hard to do the right thing. Children reflected on their previous learning about ‘The Golden Rule’ and then considered their own ‘Golden Rule’ by drawing a scenario within a comic strip and explaining what their rule would be.

In Science this week we have investigated the way in which water is transported within plants.

Retrieval Practice is very important in supporting children to retain their learning. They've created the most amazing podcasts of all our learning since September. All children were eager and confident to share their podcasts with the rest of the class.

Reminders:

  • Swimming, as usual, on Tuesday.
  • Children to wear P.E. kit on Monday.

BROGDALE FARM TRIP

  • Due to the size of the farm, and the nature of the workshops, it is necessary to do the trip in year groups on two
    separate days.
Year 3 will be going on Wednesday 17th May.
Year 4 will be going on Wednesday 24th May.
Children will be leaving and returning within school hours, so should come to school as normal. Please send
your child to school on their trip day in school uniform, although they can wear trainers for the day. They will
also need to bring a packed lunch and plenty of drink. If your child is currently receiving free school meals and
requires a packed lunch on the day, please let us know by Friday 12th May so we can inform the kitchen.
The farm have kindly offered to contribute to the cost of the coaches, however we are asking for a contribution
of £10 per child, for the remainder of the costs. The payment as well as the permission form will be on the
SCOpay app and will need to be completed by Friday 12th May.

Have a wonderful weekend!

From Mrs Jacobs and Ms Stokes.
