Summer Term 2 -Week 1

Week 1

This week in English, we’ve embarked on a delightful new unit exploring diary entries, inspired by The Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin. We had a fantastic time role-playing a day in the life of a worm, starting in our tunnels and bravely emerging into the big world beyond! Our fun, however, was interrupted by noisy school children, prompting us to slither back underground.

In Maths, we’ve begun learning about fractions and have been practising halving numbers using our times tables knowledge and bar models. We've learnt that fractions are equal parts of a WHOLE.

In Music, we caught the rhythm using body percussion, while in Science, our investigation into plant growth taught us about the importance of water, soil, sunlight, and temperature. Surprisingly, our cotton wool seeds grew, but not as well as our control plant! We noticed the seeds kept in the fridge and cupboard had yellow leaves, and we discovered that plants perform photosynthesis to stay healthy and green.

In Art, we’re exploring the work of artist Joan Miró, and in Design Technology, we learned about axles and even attempted to create our own. We have a very exciting term ahead!
