Term 6 Week 1 6.6.25

Welcome back, everyone! I hope you had a lovely break. Term 6 is here, and Year 6 are already in high spirits preparing for their performance of Oliver!—we cannot wait to see it! Details will be revealed later in the term.
This term, our topic is ‘The Holiday Show’, where our learning will revolve around holidays, tourism, and the geography of popular destinations. Our Literacy focus is poetry.
On Tuesday, we transformed the classroom into a beach! It was a wonderful lesson where we discussed all the things we might find along the shore. This sparked some great conversations about pollution, the environment, and family outings by the sea. We used this opportunity to describe our ideal beaches and introduced the class to Flotsam, a fantastic wordless book that will inspire our English learning this term.
In Maths, Year 6 are balancing rehearsals for Oliver with practicing their problem-solving and reasoning skills, while Year 5 have been investigating how to add decimals to three decimal places.
In Computing, we’ve started exploring the basics of website creation and the difference between the internet and a website, with plans to use HTML to build our own travel websites soon.
In Geography, we’re looking at tourism—discussing its importance, as well as its drawbacks.
Meanwhile, in PSHE, we’re learning about Economic Well-Being and managing money, which is crucial for Year 6 as they prepare for the next chapter.
In Science, we are looking at animals including humans. This week we explored healthy lifestlyes and nutrients in foods.
On Thursdays, we’ll be honing our athletics skills in preparation for Sports Day on Monday 30th June, and Fridays we are enjoying Handball, a fun alternative to football.
Next week is the school residential trip to Bewl Water. As I am going on this trip, the children who are not going will be split between Cherry and Rowan Class. The children have been told which class they will be in.
If your child is going into Cherry next week, they can wear their PE kit on Monday as Cherry Class have PE. Don't worry if they forget.
Have a lovely weekend!
