Wow, what an amazing first half of the Summer Term we’ve had! The children have been busy, producing a wealth of learning and Year 6 successfully completed their SATs. A massive well done to Cedar Class for all their hard work and an amazing class assembly. Thank you to all the parents, carers, family and friends who came to watch.
This week, in English, we've wrapped up our Greek Myth topic by creating newspaper reports based on the myths we've explored. The creativity of the children has been outstanding!
Meanwhile, in Maths, our Year 5 pupils have been delving into coordinates, translating shapes, and mirroring images on a mirror line. Year 6 have kicked off rehearsals for our leavers play of Oliver with the cast now finalised. The children who are not rehearsing will still focus on Maths; reinforcing their learning through retrieval tasks and challenges designed to enhance their reasoning skills.
In PE, the children loved playing in a cricket match, applying all the skills they've acquired. We had a Girls V Boys match, which the boys won.
In RE, we've explored the remarkable life and teachings of Gandhi, which sparked some fantastic discussions and the parable: The Prodigal Son exploring what is meant by God's 'Grace'.
Artistically, the children have crafted beautiful pots out of clay inspired by ancient Greek designs. We will be painting them after the half term holiday.
Historically, we investigated why the Vikings chose to settle in parts of Britain, uncovering fascinating tales of Viking rivalries and the Viking raids.
We also spent the week rehearsing an amazing assembly.
Next term there will be visitors from the local secondary schools coming in to school to meet the Year 6 children who are going to their schools.
Just a quick reminder:
