Term 6 Week 4

In Maths, Year 3 started our shape topic by recapping our understanding of there being 4 right angle turns in a full turn. We then understood that angles are made when two straight lines meet at a point and used this to find right angles in shapes. We discussed which angles were not right angles and explained why. We then moved on to define and identify obtuse and acute angles and finished the week by finding horizontal and vertical lines within different flags from across the world. Year 4 identified lines of symmetry in 2D shapes, compared and classified 2D geometric shapes based on their properties and sizes and compared and classified geometric shapes including quadrilaterals and triangles.

In Literacy we pulled together all of our knowledge around biographies and created our own about sprinter Usain Bolt. This formed our hot write assessed piece of writing.

In History we compared the ancient Greek Olympics to modern day Olympics and drew similarities and differences between them. In Art, we continued our work on landscapes in the style of David Hockey. Through Computing, we created our own frame by frame stop frame animation scene, remembering to make tiny changes in each frame for it to be most effective. In Spanish, we continued to learn the names of the different objects found in the classroom and progressed to using a sentence stem to identify which of these items we have in our own pencil case.

The children have all coped extremely well this week through this heatwave. They have been very sensible in staying hydrating and finding shade to keep them cool- well done everyone!

Have a great weekend.
