Term 5, Week 2

In our Literacy lessons this week, the children have been learning about plants and growing.  Our story this week was 'One Bean' all about the journey of a bean; all the changes it went through to eventually grow in to a plant. We discussed the beans the children planted last time and referred to the different stages. We watched a time lapse video of a bean growing, identifying the changes that occurred and the children had a go at pretending to be a bean, moving to the music. They started off small and tucked up, but as they grew their legs, the roots started to grow; their bodies began to stretch out and their arms and hands (the stem and leaves) started to grow and spread open. Later in the week we labelled the different parts of a plant as a class, and practiced writing a sentence about the journey of our bean plants.
On Tuesday afternoon Apples and Pears went on a trip to St Martin's Church. This was a local trip, therefore staff and children walked to and from the church. The children managed the walk really well, they were sensible and listened well. Inside the church the children listened to two stories, and were able to look around the church to learn more about this place of worship.
This week in Maths we have covered the following learning topics:
  • Continue patterns beyond 10
  • Verbal counting beyond 20
  • Verbal counting patterns
In PSHE the children learned about sharing, how sharing with others makes them feel, or how it makes them feel when someone shares with them. We discussed why it is important to share, and also why sometimes, it can be tricky to share with others.
Our PSED lesson this week gave the children the opportunity to think about their goals and dreams, this included things they may like to achieve, things they may want, places they would like to visit and what they would like to be when they grow up.
