Term 6, Week 2 (12/06/26)

🌟 Rowan Class Weekly Update 🌟

Welcome back to our brilliant Year 5 and 6 children who returned from the residential this week! Despite the unpredictable weather, they had a fantastic time — with many trying new experiences for the very first time. I’m sure a few of them are very excited about sleeping in their own beds tonight! 😄🛏️

📖 English – City of Ember Adventures

We are continuing our journey through City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. The plot is really beginning to thicken now, and the children are making thoughtful links between earlier events and what’s happening with the characters today. We’ve been focusing on predictions and summarising to deepen our understanding of the text.

While some children were away on the residential, the rest of the class worked from an intriguing image titled Hatched. We explored what might be happening in the picture, wrote imaginative stories inspired by it, created our own book covers in Art, and even wrote poems exploring different emotions. 🎨✍️

➗ Maths – Decimals, Division & Problem Solving

- Year 5 have been learning how to divide decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000, as well as identifying missing values in multiplication and division problems.

- Year 6 have been busy rehearsing for their upcoming production The Pirates of the Currybean — and they are absolutely buzzing with excitement! When not rehearsing, they’ve been tackling problem‑solving tasks and consolidating key maths skills.

During the residential, the children also created and played their own maths‑themed card games, showing great teamwork and creativity. 🃏✨

🥇 Topic – Going for Gold!

As part of our Going for Gold topic, the children designed their own venues to host an Olympic sport — lots of imaginative ideas and clever thinking on display!

We’ve also launched our class World Cup sweepstake ⚽. The tournament has kicked off, and we’re excited to track the matches and results on our World Cup chart.

🏃‍♂️ PE – Handball & Athletics

This term we are focusing on Handball and Athletics as we build up to Sports Day. The children have shown great enthusiasm and teamwork so far.
