Welcome to Term 6! 🌞🌧️
We hope you all had a wonderful half-term break and enjoyed the sunshine—what a change the weather has taken this week! The children were absolutely fascinated by the thunderstorms and heavy rain 🌩️🌧️ and loved experiencing such dramatic weather.
A big thank you to all the families who came along to our class assembly today—your support really means a lot to both us and the children 👏😊.
Residential Reminder 🏕️
Our school residential takes place next week (10–12 June). Miss Churchill has already shared the key details. For those not attending, school will run as normal. Mr Bowles will be accompanying the residential group, and the remaining Rowan children will join Cedar and Cherry Classes for the duration.
Looking Ahead for Year 6 🎓
It’s a busy and exciting term for Year 6 as they prepare for secondary school. We’ll have visits from secondary staff, as well as transition days in July to help support this important next step.
What We’ve Been Learning 📚
English
We’re continuing with City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. The plot is really developing now, and the children have been making thoughtful connections and predictions about what might happen next 🔍📖.
Maths
Topic – Going for Gold 🥇
To kick things off, we explored what it would take to represent Team GB (or another country) in the Olympics. The children chose a sport and wrote creatively about their training and preparation 💪.
History
We’ve been learning about the origins of the Olympic Games—when, where, and why they began. We also discovered the types of events included and discussed how only men were allowed to compete in the early Games 🏛️.
PE 🏃♂️
This term’s focus is Handball and Athletics, all building towards Sports Day. PE days are Tuesday and Friday.
Important Reminders ℹ️
