Term 6, Week 4 (26/6/26)

🌞 Weekly Rowan Update 🌞

What a hot week it has been! πŸ₯΅ The children have been absolutely fantastic and have shown great resilience despite the high temperaturesβ€”well done, everyone! πŸ‘

πŸ“’ Important Reminder
Please make sure to check the school newsletter for important dates and times this term. πŸ—“οΈ There are also some exciting competitions to enter πŸŽ‰, and don’t forget to look at the class window for the Jam Jar Activity as part of the Festival of Fun! 🍯

πŸ“š English
We are very close to finishing our class novel City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. This week has been our β€œhot write” week (no pun intended! πŸ”₯✍️), where the children have planned, written, and edited their extended pieces.

We have now completed the story and even watched the film 🎬, comparing it carefully to the book and spotting the differences.

Next week, we are excited to begin a new text: The 100-Mile-an-Hour Dog by Jeremy Strong πŸ•πŸ’¨

πŸ”’ Maths
Year 5 have been working hard on converting measures and retaining this knowledge. They have been converting between:

  • grams and kilograms βš–οΈ
  • centimetres, millimetres and metres πŸ“
  • millilitres and litres πŸ§ͺ

Year 6 have been busy rehearsing for their production of The Pirates of the Currybean πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈπŸŽ They are thoroughly enjoying it and are full of excitement! The crew have been creating props and organising resources, with even more rehearsal time planned for next week.

When not rehearsing, Year 6 have been problem-solving and consolidating their maths skillsβ€”excellent effort all round! 🧠✨

πŸ”¬ Science
This week, we explored air resistance by designing and testing parachutes πŸͺ‚ of different sizes.

Our key finding: the larger the surface area, the slower the fall.

The children recorded their experiments and discussed how variables were changedβ€”super scientific thinking! πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬πŸ‘¨β€πŸ”¬

πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ PE
Due to the heat, we made the most of the shade 🌳 and created games using natural resources. A great way to stay active while keeping cool!
