Cherry Class Blog 2025 26 Term 5 Week 1

Welcome everyone to the start of the new term!

This term is shorter than normal, but just as busy, especially for our Year 6's who will have their SAT's exams the week beginning Monday 11th May.

In Literacy this week we have started our new text called 'The City of Ember' about a futuristic city built deep underground that is totally reliant on electricity to light up the area.......until the lights start to flicker and potentially 'go out' forever! It's an excellent text and the class this week have really enjoyed the opening few chapters, getting to know some of the main characters and unusual setting.

In Numeracy, both year groups have investigated angles and used protractors to make accurate measurements and Year 6 have moved on additionally to 3-d shapes also.

Science this term is linked to the idea of 'light' and our first lesson investigated the 'parts of the eye' and how images are sent to the brain through a remarkable system.

In PE, we went outside midweek onto the field (the first time since September last year!) and practised throwing and catching, as part of our cricket topic.

In Spanish we looked at the home and towns and in our topic learning called 3-d printers the children designed a 3d object which will be printed later in the term on our 3d printer!

Have a great weekend everyone
