Term 1, Week 7

This week in Literacy, Apples and Pears have enjoyed listening to and learning about the story 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. The children answered questions about what happened in the story, spoke about the characters and identified which characters were good or bad. To support the children's learning we acted out the story and created a class story map.
This week in Maths our focus was talking about measure and pattern, and we completed the following learning challenges:
  • Explore simple patterns
  • Copy and continue simple patterns
  • Create simple patterns
In Phonics this week we have learned the following sounds ck, u, b, f. Please encourage your child to show you which sounds they have learned each week, and practice the formation of the letter at home.
In PE we practised moving at different speeds, walking in different directions including circles and zigzags and we had lots of fun learning how to jump up high and as well as seeing how far forward we could jump.

In PSHE the children discussed emotions and what might happen for them to feel these emotions. We spoke about what we do with our bodies when we feel this way, such as clenching our fists when angry or stamping our feet. We thought about helpful ways we can calm ourselves down when we feel overwhelmed with certain emotions. The children then used the self regulation chart to identify how they were feeling, they moved their name over to the feeling that most represented them in that moment.

Our Understanding of the World lesson this week gave the children the opportunity to share family photos with the class. We spoke about what the children were doing at the time the photo was taken and who the members of their family are.

Important reminders:
  • On Friday afternoons Apples and Pears do 'show and tell' therefore your child can bring something in from home to show the class.
  • All parents should have access to Tapestry. If you have not signed up yet, please do this so you do not miss out on seeing what the children have been learning and any important messages and reminders
  • Please read the school newsletter for important school information and reminders
  • Children should bring in a coat everyday, as we use the outdoor provision in all weathers 
  • All children should have a PE kit in school, which should be in a named PE bag
  • All items of clothing MUST be clearly labelled with your child's name. This includes shoes, PE items, coats, lunch boxes and water bottles
  • Children are required to bring in a water bottle each day, this should only have water in it
  • Children should bring in their reading record and reading book everyday
  • Please ensure your child has read each week and you have written a comment in their reading record. This must be done prior to their 'reading day' at school (your child's reading day has been written on the first page of their reading record) in order for your child's book to be changed
  • Children should not be wearing hoop earrings, only small studs are allowed to be worn in school
  • Earrings must be removed on PE days (Mondays for Apples and Tuesdays for Pears)
  • If you have not done so already please set up your child's Scopay account. These details were given to you on our home visit
