Term 2 Week 1!

Welcome back after the October Half Term! It has been lovely to see all of our Wonderful Walnuts back in school, ready to learn, smile and shine. We have had a fantastic week with lots of exciting learning across the curriculum.

🏃 PE: This week, we took part in a Now Press Play rainforest adventure. The children moved along to a rainforest story, linking beautifully with our theme this term. We explored different ways of moving and thought carefully about how to use the space around us effectively while responding to the story. Moving forward this term, PE is on a Tuesday. 

🔢 Maths: In Maths, we focused on multiplication by:
-Making equal groups
-Building STEM sentences to explain our thinking
-Creating arrays
-Revising our 2, 5 and 10 times tables
The children showed great enthusiasm and confidence as they practised these important skills.

✍️ Literacy: We began the week with an exciting practical "walk-through" of the rainforest. Using our senses, we generated rich vocabulary and created some powerful descriptive sentences. The children then applied skills learned last term, including:
-Expanded noun phrases
-Nouns and pronouns
-Similes
Our Class Text is called " Where the Forest Meets the Sea" by Jeannie Baker

🔬 Science: In Science, we explored how living things can be sorted in a variety of ways. The children used Venn diagrams, Carroll diagrams and grouping activities to classify different living things and discuss their similarities and differences.

✝️ RE: Our RE learning focused on understanding the true meaning of Christmas for Christians and comparing this with what Christmas means to us personally. The children shared thoughtful reflections and discussed their own beliefs and experiences respectfully.

🎨 Art: We began learning about the work of the talented sculptor Michelle Reader. The children were introduced to her unique artwork and explored how sculptures can be created using a variety of materials.

🌍 Geography: Using atlases, the children worked hard to accurately locate and label the major bodies of water around the UK and Europe on blank maps. They demonstrated excellent map-reading skills and geographical knowledge.

🎵 Music: In Music, we continued getting to know our new song and explored the musical concept of duration, thinking about how long and short sounds can be used in music.

💬 Class Conference: Our Class Conference focus this week was patience. We discussed why patience is important and identified ways we can demonstrate it both in school and at home.

⭐ A huge well done to the children, who earned their class reward last term! After reaching their target of 10 stars, they were able to cash them in and enjoy some well-deserved computer time. The children were extremely excited and thoroughly enjoyed their chosen reward.
