Week ending 8th May 2026

In Literacy this week, we have continued reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  The children have been writing their own setting descriptions of the Chocolate Room and writing diary entries to reinforce their knowledge of the past tense.

In numeracy, Year 4 have started learning about money and conversions from pounds to pence. Children were introduced to decimal notation for the first time, for example £4.25. Children explored the use of pounds and pence notation and learnt that the digits following the decimal point represent part of a pound. This linked to their earlier learning that £1 = 100p and 1 whole = 100 hundredths.

Year 3 consolidated their understanding of fractions, recapping how to find equivalent fractions using multiplication and division, how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator and how to find unit and non-unit fractions of an amount. We finished the week working collaboratively to put all of those skills to the test through problem solving.

Now that the weather is drier, we have been lucky enough to have our PE lesson (football) on the field this week.  The children were dribbling the football through a set of cones and then defending the goal.  In science we have been investigating magnets and whether they attract or repel a paperclip.  We made scientific predictions and drew a diagram to represent our findings.

Please can you ensure that your child has a named water bottle to keep in the classroom as the weather is beginning to warm up.

Have a lovely weekend
