Cherry Class Blog 2026 27 Term 2 Week 1

Welcome one and all to the first blog of our new term (one of my favourite ones, especially into December and the run up to Christmas!)

We started our new class text this week, which is actually a poem called The Highwayman. It is a narrative poem, with a distinct plot, great characters and so many themes, including love, betrayal, loyalty and everything in-between! I hope the class will enjoy the poem as much as I have done over the years.

In Numeracy, Year 5 spent this week looking at multiplication and division by 10, 100 and 1000, whilst Year 6 focused on fractions.

We have just come back today from an excellent trip to Maidstone Museum and a walk back along the river, looking at the bridges over the River Medway. Our new topic is called 'Go with the Flow' and we will look at rivers in details, their features, their uses and dangers of, including flooding.

The behaviour from the class today was excellent, both on the walk to and from the Museum, during the hands-on workshop about 'Maidstone past' and along the river walk coming home. Everyone did what was asked of them and more.

Have a good weekend everyone.
