Accessibility Statement for Park Way Primary School

Website

This accessibility statement applies to www.park-way.kent.sch.uk

This website is run by Park Way Primary School. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most popular screen readers JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We've also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible. Primary schools are partially exempt from website accessibility regulations, except for content people need in order to use our services (such as online forms for parents and carers).

However, we are committed to making our website as accessible as possible. We know that currently:

  • Some of our PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • Some older documents may not have been created with accessibility in mind
  • Some images may not have appropriate alternative text descriptions
  • Some videos may not have captions or transcripts
  • The contrast between text and background colours may not always meet accessibility standards in all areas

We are working to address these issues as part of our ongoing commitment to accessibility.

Technical information about this website's accessibility

Park Way Primary School is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard.

Primary schools are partially exempt from the accessibility regulations. The exemption applies to all content except for content that people need in order to use our services. This includes, for example, online forms that allow parents and carers to:

  • Apply for school places
  • Request information
  • Make payments
  • Complete consent forms
  • Report absences

We have made sure that these essential functions meet accessibility standards where possible.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Many of our older PDFs and Word documents do not meet accessibility standards. For example, they may not be structured so they're accessible to screen reader users.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they're not essential to providing our services. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Pre-recorded video and audio content

Some of our pre-recorded video and audio content  may not have captions, transcripts or audio descriptions. This is because the accessibility regulations do not require us to add these to content published before 2020.

Live video and audio content

We do not have to provide captions or transcripts for live video or audio content, such as live streaming of school events.

What we're doing to improve accessibility

We are committed to improving the accessibility of our website. Our plans include:

  • Reviewing and updating older PDF documents to make them more accessible, prioritising those that are most frequently used
  • Ensuring all new content published on the website meets accessibility standards
  • Providing training for staff who publish content on the website
  • Conducting regular accessibility reviews of our website
  • Responding promptly to any accessibility issues reported to us

We will review our progress annually and update this statement accordingly.
