Term 4 Week 5

A range of artwork from this terms topic.

Year 3 continued looking at mass and capacity this week. We understood that 1000ml=1l and found equivalent masses, using this knowledge. We moved on to finding different ways to make 1l, drawing upon our addition and subtraction skills and reminding ourselves how to use the compact column method. Finally, we practically poured different volumes of water into a measuring cylinder and read the scale accurately. We will continue to develop an understanding of scales next week. Year 4 consolidated their understanding of fractions and moved on to converting fractions into decimals.

Through literacy, the children worked in groups to create fantastic news reports, reporting on an earthquake that occurred in Maidstone. They were very excited to combine their knowledge of news reporting, alongside their technology skills, to incorporate different features and even use the green screen when filming!

In History, the children brought together their knowledge and understanding of castles, their features and uses and the history of both Leeds and Rochester castles. They decided which castle they would prefer to live in and gave reasons why. Through Art, the children continued to sketch different facial features. Please see some attached as great examples. In Computing, the children created their final branching diagram, avoiding distinguishing between animals based on their colours, instead using their diet, habitat and length in metres. In Music, the children explored the music used in the Nutcracker ballet and enjoyed exploring different beats and rhythms within a piece of music.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Daniells and Mrs Ali.
