A huge thank you to everyone who came along to Walnut Class assembly today. The children have worked so hard this term. It was great for them to showcase this.
To finish Term 3, the children created diary entries in role as Blue John. This allowed them to demonstrate their understanding of the story, putting themselves into Blue John’s perspective and thinking about how he was feeling and why. It was great to use ‘The Hot Seat’ to bring the character of Blue John to life.
In Maths, Year 3 continued to identify different lengths. They added and subtracted lengths, recapping the compact column method to do this, compared lengths and concluded the week understanding what perimeter is. After half term they will begin measuring and calculating perimeter too. Year 4 have been looking at fractions. We started the week by understanding what a whole is and how fractions represent part of a whole. We then moved onto looking at fractions more than one and how we represent these using mixed numbers. We have looked at how to order, compare and partition mixed fractions across the week.
In Science, the children investigated how reactive rocks are to acidity. They used vinegar as the acid and closely observed the effect this had on the rock. If a rock bubbled or fizzed, this meant that the rock was sedimentary or metamorphic. The children had great fun with this!
Through Geography, we completed research to identify pros and cons for living near a volcano. The children identified reasons such as having rich soil to grow crops, beautiful views and lots of job opportunities as pros and being scared or stressed, having damage to your home or being evacuated quickly as cons. They then decided if they would prefer to live near a volcano or not. Ask your child what they concluded. We had some very interesting opinions!
Thank you very much for the donations of old pillowcases for our Batik art project. If your child is yet to bring one in, please can they do so after half term. We have extended the project to the first week back as we haven't had all donations in.
Have a great half term! See you on Monday 23rd February.
