Welcome back! We hope you had a great break. The children have got stuck into their learning for our new term straight away - well done everyone.
In Literacy the children were introduced to a new text, Blue John by Berlie Doherty. It is about a magical child born from the heart of the glacier and the gold of the sun inside a cave. We started to discuss what a non-chronological report is and the children had a go at writing one, using their knowledge of pyramids from last term. We will use the story of Blue John to inspire us when writing a non-chronological report about caves throughout this term.
In Maths this week Year 4 have been looking at multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. Year 3 have been looking at what makes a multiple of 10 and how to multiply by 10. They have also been introduced to a pictorial representation of the grid method, in preparation to start learning the multiplication grid method next week.
In Computing we have been building on our coding skills from last term and looking at programming hardware. We did this by using the MicroBits to practice some basic coding and getting used to using the hardware we will be using for the term.
In Art we were introduce to the work of Hokusai. We talked about the themes within different pieces of his art work, discussing what we liked and disliked. We also thought about what colours and techniques were used too. In Music we started to look at a different type of music to those we have previously studied - rap music. The children started to clap the rhythm their name makes, thinking about how many syllables this includes.
Have a great weekend.
Mrs Daniells and Mrs Ali.
