Term 2 Week 5

This week in our English learning we used conjunctions in our sentences and focused on how to accurately use commas with a conjunction. We also identified prepositions and used these to describe where an object was placed. We used summarising to identify the main points of a story and used this alongside paragraphs to write our own version of the start of Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx.

In Maths Year 4 have been doing consolidation work on column method for addition and subtraction. We also looked at using inverse operations to check our calculations. Year 3 have been consolidating their understanding of multiplying and dividing by 3. They then moved on to finding multiples of 4. Please encourage the children to keep counting in 3s and 4s and practise these times tables with them as much as possible.

In History we learnt all about the Mummification process. The children were thoroughly engaged and disgusted by this! They showcased their learning through PowerPoint presentations. Through Science, the children had the opportunity to showcase all of their learning around our ‘Light and Dark’ topic. They recalled prior knowledge through a Kahoot quiz and then worked on their own poster around the topic. They will present these next week. Through DT, the children developed their understanding of sculpturing by using clay to make items that would have been found in an Egyptian tomb. They worked hard to think about the shape and size of the objects, manipulating and shaping the clay. The children will move on to painting these items next week.

For swimming on Thursday, please send your child in with a pair of cotton pyjamas (no onesies or thick fluffy materials) along with their normal swimming costume as we are learning about water safety.

Have a great weekend.

Mrs Daniells and Mrs Ali.
