Term 2 Week 4

Through English this week we have been predicting what might happen next in our story, Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx. We represented this through a comic strip, using images and writing to explain our thoughts. We continued to build description when describing a setting using adjectives, adverbs and conjunctions. We used retrieval skills to find information within non-fiction texts to find out about the Egyptian Gods. We thought about what these Gods represented to the Egyptian people, what their symbols meant and how they were celebrated. We linked this to our art learning where we were learning to master our skills in sketching and did this by creating sketches of the God Ra.

In Maths Year 4 have been looking at their recall of all the times table facts, and learning how to multiply and divide by 1 and 0. Year 3 have been looking at multiplying and dividing by 3 and 4, linking this to our learning on grouping and sharing.

In our History we were learning about the significance of the River Nile to the Egyptian civilization. We thought about how important the River Nile was for the Egyptians and how much they relied on it. We also identified it on a map of Egypt, along with Giza and Cairo. Through DT we started to Paper Mache our Egyptian tombs, making them stronger and stable and providing an even base on which to paint later in the process. Through Science, we continued to explore light and shadows and discovered how and why a shadow changes size throughout the day. The children were fascinated to learn that the earth moves and rotates on its axis!

Have a great weekend.
