Term 2 Week 2

Good afternoon and a huge thank you to all of those parents that attended parents’ evening this week. It was great to meet you all and to talk about the progress your child is making. Thank you for your continued support.

Through English this week we have been using noun phrases to describe the characters Marcy, Dad and the Wind Weaver from our key text. Here, we had to practise using a comma to separate the adjectives in our expanded noun phrase. For example, The delicate, unique bird swooped into the unknown distance. The children have also been exploring the use of adverbs to further build a picture in the readers mind. Finally, we explored the use of the possessive apostrophe and applied this with improving accuracy.

In Maths Year 3 have been looking at finding complements to 100 using multiples of 10 and exploring the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction. Year 4 have been looking at recalling the multiplication facts for the 3, 6- and 9-times tables.

In History this week we explored chronology, using the book ‘The Window’ to discuss what had changed through the window and what this showed us. We took part in a ‘Let’s say’ lesson where we immersed ourselves into Egyptian life, using the stimulus of an Egyptian house scene. We used our senses to think about what it would have been like to be there. We then ordered key events in both world history and Egyptian history, developing an understanding of AD and BC and how these are used on a timeline.

In Science we were identifying how shadows are formed. We did this by exploring the shadows created by shadow puppets and making observations. Please explore shadows this weekend with your child. See if they can tell you how a shadow is made. Can you make shadow patterns together? How can you change the size of your shadows?

In DT we started to explore Egyptian tombs and what they were used for. We learnt that Egyptian people kept very precious things in their tombs. We thought about our own tombs and created sketches to plan what they might look like before beginning to make them next week.

Have a great weekend.

Please let the office know if you are able to support us with swimming on Tuesday. Your support is greatly appreciated.
