Term 2, Week 1 (31/10/25)

🎉 Welcome back to Term 2! We hope you all had a relaxing and refreshing break and you are enjoying the beautiful colours.🍂

📚 English this term is all about poetry! We're diving into the creative worlds of Karl Nova and Matt Goodfellow. This week, we explored expanded noun phrases (fancy ways to describe things!) and wrote spooky or sparkly poems inspired by Bonfire Night 🎆 and Halloween 🎃 for our cold write. We wrapped up the week with some editing.

Maths has been buzzing with brainpower! Year 5 have been multiplying and dividing whole and decimal numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000. They've also been working with multiples and powers of 10. Year 6 kicked off with an arithmetic assessment and then got stuck into fractions—finding equivalents, placing them on number lines, simplifying and comparing them using number lines and visuals.

🚗 DT took us back in time and then we looked to the future! We learned about Dorothee Pullinger, a trailblazing engineer who designed the first car for women. Then we talked about sustainability and designed our own futuristic eco-friendly vehicles. This sets us up for a term of designing with pulleys and levers!

🌺 Remembrance Day Prep
This week, we’ve started crafting our beautiful poppies for Remembrance Day,  We can’t wait for you to see our thoughtful and creative display—keep an eye out for it!

🕊️ RE – Respect & Kindness
In RE, we’ve been exploring racism and what it truly means. We looked at how different religious texts speak about equality and kindness. Our class agreed on one powerful message: being kind is always the best way to be!

🏉 In PE, we’re getting fit and learning the fast-paced game of tag rugby! 🏃‍♀️💨 Our PE days are staying the same this term.

🌟 Golden Book
We didn’t have our usual whole school assembly this week, so our Golden Book stars from before half term will be celebrated on Monday.
👏 Ansuma – always resilient and producing top-quality work!
👏 Leen – settling in beautifully and showing great determination!

📱 Social Media Reminder
We’ve had some issues with WhatsApp and Snapchat. Some conversations have been unkind and inappropriate. Please remember these apps have age restrictions. If your child uses social media, make sure you're monitoring their activity to keep them safe online. Some children are accessing these apps through friends’ phones, so please stay vigilant.

ℹ️ Important Info
Jewellery – No earrings for PE please. Only studs allowed in school. Watches are fine, but smartwatches must be handed in with phones each morning.
PE Kits – Please follow the school uniform policy for correct PE kit.
