So, another week gone, we are slowly creeping through Term 4. The children have been incredibly busy this week learning the lines for their special assembly and practising what they had to do and when. We are so proud of the children, some of them for remembering their lines and others for being so brave and standing up in front of everyone and sharing their learning. Thank you to those who came and watched the children share their learning in our special assembly.
I just wanted to remind everyone to make sure the children have their reading books in school every day. We will still only change the books once a week but we are trying to encourage the children to be more responsible. We are also trying to read with the children on a more regular basis.
English:
In English this week, the children have gone back to learning about the poem ‘The Frog Olympics’. The children have thought carefully about what the frogs are doing in the poem and have used this to practise their simple sentence writing, including capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. The children have then also worked on using their ideas about the frogs to begin to understand the format of a poem. They learnt that each new sentence goes on a new line.
Maths:
In Maths this week, the children have continued learning about making equal groups. They looked at solving division problems using the equal groups. They then had to identify the amount in each of the groups. The children have also learnt about doubling and halving numbers.
We are really working hard to increase our time on TT Rockstars in school. Please can you also encourage your children to access this at home as it really helps them with their counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and their understanding of multiplication. It might also help us to win the trophy in Key Stage 1, as Ivy have only won it once this whole year.
Science:
In Science this week, the children learnt about the importance of exercise on their bodies. They explored different types of exercise and discussed how it made their bodies feel after doing this for a minute. We linked this to the importance of eating a balanced diet and how this all supports in helping us to be as healthy as possible.
DT:
In DT this week, the children explored different ingredients. We learnt about the taste and texture of ingredients and whether we would want to use this for our own pizza making at the end of the term. The children tried cheddar cheese, mozzarella, pepperoni, pepper, onion, tomato, chickpeas, sweetcorn, olives, mushrooms and tomato sauce. The children then rated the food as to whether they liked it or disliked it.
Art:
In Art this week, the children learnt about how colours can be used to create different effects in pictures. We explored how artists choose particular styles or colours to show ideas. The children discussed how lines splashing out of a picture could be used to represent the speed of someone, or the colour white could be used to represent the person in the picture doing something related to snow or ice.
Please read with your child and record it in their reading record to help us to know who has read, we have noticed a continual decline in the number of children reading at home.
Enjoy the weekend.
