Well that’s another week over and done, my goodness they really are flying by. Thank you to those parents that came along to our class assembly, we are very proud of all of the children for being so brave sharing their learning with everyone. You may have seen on TEAMS a message about recycling boxes, egg boxes, cardboard tubes; please continue collecting these and sending them into school to support the children’s learning in DT this term.
English:
In English this week, we have really been focusing on developing some independence in the children when it comes to writing sentences. We have given children lots of skills over the last few weeks and have challenged them to write some independent sentences about landmarks in London. We have been working hard to teach the children, using colourful semantics, that sentences need to have different parts for them to make sense – who, doing and a what.
Maths:
In Maths this week, we have been learning about our numbers to 30, we have practised counting forwards and backwards to 30, counted in tens and have begun to learn about tens and ones to help represent these numbers to 30. The children have been using Dienes to show the number of tens in a number and then the ones.
Science:
In Science this week, the children recorded their house building with different materials experiment. The children learnt about the suitability of materials according to their properties. They explained which material they made their house from and compared it to another using words like: stronger, harder, more or less fragile.
DT:
In DT this week, the children explored building structures collaboratively; they experimented with different joints to attach boxes and tubes together. The children were introduced to the structural feature of a ‘buttress’ - this is a structural element built against or projecting from a wall to provide support and reinforcement. The children were encouraged to add this for extra support to their structures.
Computing:
In Computing this week, the children learnt how they can use technology to create their own representations of the artwork from Henry Matisse. They used the Ipads to add different sized squares and rectangles to their design.
RE:
In RE this week, the children learnt the story ‘Jonah and the Whale.’ They then thought about the messages in the story and what this story teaches Christians about God.
History:
In History this week, the children learnt about the historical event ‘The Great Fire of London’. The children learnt how the fire began, what happened during the fire, how many days it lasted and what happened as a result of it.
Have a wonderful weekend.
