Spring is on its way! It definitely makes us all feel better when the sun is shining!
A big well done to everyone who took the time to dress up for World Book Day. It was lovely to see so many characters, especially Thumbelina and her gigantic flower, our little frog and Puss in Boots to name a few.
In English, we have been reading The Fisherman and the Genie from the Arabian Nights collection as part of World Book Day. We sequenced the story and made puppets and props to retell the story. We practiced retelling it to each other and then we retold it to the children in Holly Class through either a puppet show or drama. They also retold their tale that they had been learning this week to us.
This week in Maths, Year 5 have been learning about decimal numbers with up to 3 decimal places. They have been ordering and comparing decimals and rounding decimal numbers with 1 decimal place. They ended the week by investigating percentages. Year 6 have been learning how to find the volume of 3D shapes and how to convert different measures to the same unit of measure to calculate the volume.
In Science, we explored adaptation and looked at how animals have adapted to suit their environment over time. Did you know the Arctic Fox has brown fur in the summer which changes to white and is thicker in the winter? The Desert Fox has large ears to keep it cool in the heat.
In DT, we looked at different foods and how they are sourced. We looked at foods that are caught, reared and processed.
In RE, we have discussed what love is and how love can have different meanings.
In PE, we continued our dance and tennis topics. The Mission Impossible dance is progressing as we add more moves. In tennis we have learnt how to do backhands and held rallies.
In Computing, we have continued to explore databases, exploring how we can use databases and why.
Social Media
We have had issues with children creating group chats on Snapchat and WhatsApp where there are some unkind words being exchanged. This impacts behaviour in school. Please monitor your child’s phone. There are age restrictions on these apps.

Home Learning
Home learning is to learn their times tables on TTRockstars. This is monitored weekly. EdShed, where they will learn to improve their spelling. The weekly spellings on EdShed are also learnt in school. Year 6 have maths home learning set on MyMaths. All children have been given their passwords. The children should also be reading daily and writing in their Reading Records.
Thank you for your continued support. Have a great weekend.
