Term 3 Week 6 13.2.26

How fast has Term 3 gone? What a fun and busy one we have had!

In English this week, we wrote a newspaper article based on The Hero Twins for our hot write. We planned it, wrote it and edited it. We then used a newspaper report format on Word to present it.

In Maths, Year 5 have been learning about decimal numbers with up to 2 decimal places and equivalent fractions and decimals whilst consolidating learning from this term.

Year 6 have been learning how to order and compare fractions, decimals and percentages. We have also gone over key facts that we need to know in order to understand fractions, decimals and percentages. We ended the week by finding percentages of amounts.

In Science, we explored filtration and how water is filtered in order for it to be safe for us to drink. We also looked at water pollution.

In History, we continued to learn about the decline of the Mayan civilization. We created PowerPoint presentations about The Mayans. We also tasted some foods from the diet of the Mayans: avocado, tortilla, red kidney beans, sweetcorn, peppers.

In Art, we explored how masks were an important part of Mayan life. We did some research and sketched ones we liked and then created our own design before painting and decorating a mask. We had a mask parade with Cherry and Rowan Class. They look amazing.

In PE, we worked together to create a sequence of rolling, balancing and moving in Gymnastics, using larger apparatus. The children must remove their shoes and socks for Gymnastics for safety reasons. Some of the children are refusing to do this. Please encourage them to do this.

THERE ARE A FEW CHILDREN NOT WEARING THE CORRECT PE KIT. PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARE FOLLOWING OUR SCHOOL PE KIT POLICY. CHILDREN SHOULD WEAR BLACK JOGGERS/LEGGINGS AND THEIR TEAM COLOURED TOP OR A PLAIN WHITE TOP WITH A SCHOOL JUMPER/SWEATER.

In PSHE, we learnt about basic first aid and how to help someone with a head injury.
