Term 1 Week 7 17.10.25

Another week of great learning and our first term complete.

In English, we have planned and written our Hot Write story based on Kensuke’s Kingdom. We wrote a book review about how we felt about the book. We finished the term off by watching the film. This opened up a discussion as we compared it to the book, which is great for our comparison and vocabulary skills. What a lovely way to end our first term together.

In Maths, Year 5 have been learning about prime, squared and cubed numbers. Year 6 have been consolidating their mental calculation skills by exploring patterns and relationships of numbers and their knowledge of the times tables and how to apply this when problem solving.

In Science, we looked at four naturalists: Sir David Attenborough, Jane Goodall, Steve Backshall and Steve Irwin. We researched and looked at their contribution to science and the natural world and why this is important for understanding the world we live in.

In DT, we made our stew based on the Cape Verde stew Cachupa. The children got involved with peeling and chopping and observed it cooking. Those that tried it absolutely loved it when they tasted it in the afternoon, the whole lot went. Our room smelt lovely all day full of amazing aromas.

In PSHE, we explored relationships within our families.

Golden Book

This week our Golden Book winners are: Evie and David. Evie for an amazing story for her Hot Write and David for always following school rules and showing respect.

In PE, we have continued to learn and develop our football and basketball skills. We also had the experience of learning about weight lifting with a coach who came in to demonstrate this.
