Term 4, Week 1

The children have had a great first week back at school. They have especially enjoyed telling us all about their half term break.
In our Literacy lessons this week, we have been learning about Pancake Day and the children listened to the story 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes'. We spoke about the different characters the Wolf met throughout the story and why he didn't want to share his pancakes with them! During the week we have spoken about pancakes, the ingredients used and how we make them. The children shared experiences of eating pancakes over the half term. Later in the week, we modelled drawing a pancake and the children decided which toppings to draw on it. Lastly the children had a go at drawing their own pancake and wrote labels for the toppings.
It would not be fair for us to end a week of learning all about pancake day.....without the children getting to taste them! Therefore, today we made pancakes with the children, for them to enjoy!
This week in Maths we have covered the following learning topics:
  • Talking about time - the children used as sand timer to see how many tasks they could complete in a minute
  • Order and sequencing time - the children had a go at ordering the days of the week. They then looked at how they could order various events in the school day, using the classroom visual timetable
In PSHE we learned about why listening is important. We did this by playing two games, 'Simon Says' and 'Noisy Neighbour'. After each game we discussed why it is important to listen carefully and what may happen if we do not listen while playing the game.
Our PSED lesson this week focused on what it means to be a good friend. The children helped to create a mind map for this, and they thought of some lovely ways in which we could be a good friend to one another.
