When looking at The Highwayman this week, we used our summarising skills to help us identify the key ideas in each stanza. This led to some brilliant discussions about the narrative in the poem and what we think will happen in Part 2. We linked this understanding to our drama performances in Literacy where we took on the roles of the character's in the poem to help us build our confidence, enjoyment and mastery of language. In addition, we have been looking in greater detail at vocabulary choices and how they can enhance our understanding. Using the figurative language in the poem as inspiration, we created images of scenes from the poem and generated our own figurative vocabulary to enhance our ideas. In Maths this week, Year 6 have been developing their fraction knowledge by comparing and ordering fractions with different denominators. This built on our learning last week as we used our knowledge of equivalent fractions to help us compare and correctly order the given fractions. The Year 5 children have been building on their knowledge of multiplication and division by multiplying and dividing whole numbers and those involving decimals by 10, 100 and 1000.
In our PE this week, we were learning about balances. We chose appropriate contrasting actions to create longer, more challenging sequences remaining controlled on the floor and apparatus.
