Though we have only been back three days, we have hit the ground running!
In Literacy, we have been looking at prepositions and fronted adverbials. These grammatical features help us to make our paragraphs more cohesive and create a vivid image for our readers.
In Maths, Year 5 have been finishing their fractions unit by adding and subtracting mixed numbers with different denominators. They had to use their knowledge of equivalent fractions and common multiples to help them find a common denominator. In Year 6, we have started our new topic: ratio and proportion. We have been looking at how we can mathematically describe the relationship between two groups. We then moved on to solve problems involving the relative sizes of two quantities where missing values can be found by using integer multiplication and division facts.
Our topic this term is Switched On; we will be focusing on electricity in Science and will make links with this across Computing and Design Technology. This week, we designed our own toy/game that uses electricity and used software on Tinkercad to create 3d models and explore the circuits that would be involved in making a functional product.
This term our PE day is Friday. Please come dressed in appropriate PE kit. Our topics will be Gymnastics and Hockey. This afternoon, we started looking at balances and tension in our PE lesson. I was incredibly impressed with how well the children worked together and how respectful and resilient they were when completing the balances. Some groups even began to compose their own sequences thinking about how they can move between balances!
Next week:
On Tuesday, children are allowed to come dressed as a Rock Star as part of the Rock Kidz workshops that will be going on throughout the day.
