Week beginning 24th April

Another week has flown by in Rowan class.

The Year 5 children took their OA to the next level this week. Year 5 spent one afternoon this week bouldering at The Climbing Experience!  Many of the children struggled at first but then grew in confidence as the afternoon wore on. A lot of the class even made it to the top of the climbing wall.

In Literacy this week, we have learnt about the 12 labours of Hercules. We made freeze frames of some of the labours we thought Hercules should have completed before discovering what the real labours were. We had a class debate justifying whether we think the labours were fair and if Hercules should have to do them. We also used expanded noun phrases, adjectives and adverbials to describe Hercules as well as writing a diary entry in role.

In Maths this week, Year 5 and 6 have continued to learn about angles. Year 5 were focusing on classifying the different types of angles, finding missing angles on straight lines as well as around a point. Year 6 were identifying and naming parts of a circle, finding missing angles in quadrilaterals and other polygons by drawing on their understanding of angles inside triangles.

As part of our History, we have been learning about the Viking raid on Lindisfarne with children identifying the causes and consequences of the Vikings' actions. We have also been learning about Ummah in RE and understanding how Muslims feel part of the worldwide Muslim community (Ummah).

On Friday, we celebrated Holi and the children took part in paint throwing to commemorate the Hindu festival.

Reminders:
