Term 1 final week

Hello :)

What a fantastic term we have had in Oak Class! I am so proud of all the progress we have made this term, a huge well done to everyone!

Literacy

This week we have finished our diary entry unit. We have continued looking at the tale of Oliver Twist and have focused on the scene where the dastardly Dogger steals from a gentleman on the streets of London and Oliver gets the blame! We took on the role of the Oliver, role played how we would react to this situation and then wrote a diary entry. The writing was amazing and I am so proud of some of the children who have made the huge leap and can now apply their sounds to their writing.

Maths

This week we have continued to focus on basic skills; our number bonds to 20 and our times tables. We focused on twos this week and we have really improved our recall of these.

We have also continued to look at addition. We have used our previous knowledge of partitioning to help us add 2 digit numbers. We have focused on doing this using concrete resources and using a pictorial method to help us.

Afternoons

This week we have made a comparison between an event beyond living memory and something within our memory. As we have been learning about the Wright brother's first flight; we compared how planes have changed over the years and discussed the reasons why these changes have been necessary.

We have looked at the 'Golden Rule' in different religions (Islam, Christianity and Judaism) and how we can apply this to our own experiences.

In Science, we have looked at the seasons on the year. We have made observations based on how our environment is changing and what season we are currently in and which one we have left.

Some of our class went to a tennis tournament earlier in the week and had a lovely time! The children that went thoroughly enjoyed their time there and this is another example of some of the brilliant opportunities we have at Park Way :)

AOB

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the Ready, Steady, Read competition. The collection is now closed and we will be counting up and buying new books in Term 2.

Please ensure that you complete your half term home learning and return it for the first Thursday back.

We are back on TUESDAY 1ST NOVEMBER. See you then :) and have a lovely half term.
