HOLLY CLASS

Welcome to Holly Class. We are a mixed year group class consisting of children from both Year 1 and Year 2.  This week we have been focusing on getting back into the routines of Park Way and getting to know each other as we will be spending a lot of time together over this year.  

Most of our learning this week has been around reviewing basic skills and understanding how we should present our learning in Holly Class.  In Literacy we have been recapping phonemes (sounds) and graphemes (how the sounds are recorded).  We have been using our knowledge of graphemes to help us spell words and then we moved onto structuring sentences.

In Numeracy we have been recapping our knowledge of place value and have been learning how to order numbers.  Children were also encouraged to explain how they knew they had ordered the numbers correctly.

Our topic this term is called Time Detectives with a focus on comparing the lives of Victorian children to our lives today. We looked at some Victorian toys and the children made their own using recyclable materials.  In Art we have been looking at photographs of butterflies and have tried to mimic a likeness.
