Week ending Friday 6th January

Good afternoon parents and carers and welcome to our latest blog.

A shorter first week back for everyone, but a busy one nevertheless. We started looking at our new topic (Switched On) which looks a technology and how so much of our lives these days (for better or worse) is controlled through technology. To link to our new topic, our science this term will be 'electricity' and the children had an enjoyable session Thursday afternoon designing their own game / toy controlled by an electric circuit and then drawing the circuit using appropriate electrical symbols.

Next week we will begin our fantastic new class text 'The Demon Headmaster' and in preparation for this and to get the creative writing juice flowing, we had a series of stand alone lessons linked to descriptive writing, particularly the description of both a character and setting.

In Numeracy, Year 5 finished their long fractions block, that was curtailed early due to the snow on the last week of Term 2.  We will move away from fractions (for a few weeks!!) from Monday and will begin a short block of learning linked to multiplication and division. Year 6 started this week looking at ratio, and I know how hard they worked as I had more than a few visitors throughout the week from the Year 6 classes to show me their excellent learning!
